The 50250 has a permanent lifetime HEPA filter which can save a lot of money. The purifier has an active carbon pre-filter which protects the HEPA filter and absorbs trace level of volatile molecules, the source of odors. The pre-filter needs to be replaced every 3 months for optimal odor removal.
